2018 New Years Wishes

Happy 2018 Everybody!!

I remember a time when I thought the year 2000 was so far away. And now, here we are, eighteen years passed the start of the millennium. Whomever said that time moves quickly once you turned 21 sure was right!

Life hasn’t slowed down much at the Doerr household. I keep waiting for that day to happen, but so far I’m out of luck. In fact, life has gotten more chaotic as the kids have grown. Who would have thought having seven children under the age of twelve would’ve been the easiest part of being a mom. But it was! I sure miss those days! Life was simple then and I definitely got more sleep!

Mary and Tom just celebrated their 2nd wedding anniversary in December and they moved into a brand new house in October. Life sure is falling into place for them. Mary graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy last May and is working full time at Methodist Texsan Hospital in San Antonio. She loves it! I just wish she and Tommy didn’t live so far away. The 5-6 hour drive is no fun, especially when we have to drive up and down the constantly-under-construction I-35. Ugh!

Mitchell graduated from the University of Texas in Austin last May with a Bachelors Degree and is now working on his Masters at UT-Dallas and living at home. In his first semester of grad school he got a 4.0. Brian and I couldn’t be more proud! I enjoy having him home, but he’s so busy with work and school that, believe it or not, we don’t see him too much! He’s continuing his pursuit of getting into medical school and will start applying again very soon.

Madeline just got off a ten month contract dancing for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines! She danced on the ship Empress of the Seas! She loved it! She met some great people and had an amazing time traveling to new places, especially Cuba! We were lucky as we got to go on her cruise ship twice! Brian and I went once by ourselves and then once with the rest of the family. It was so much fun! Now Madeline is back in NYC auditioning and waiting for the next adventure.

Mason is in his second year at Hendrix College in Arkansas! He continues to play football while maintaining a 3.8 GPA!! I’m not sure how he does it, but he does. He’s also observing and pre-student teaching in some classrooms in the Conway area. He loves it! He can’t wait to be a math teacher and a football coach one day. I’m not sure who he takes after but it definitely isn’t me! When he isn’t working his butt off, he’s volunteering with Young Life. He’s a leader for the local organization and he absolutely loves being around the kids. Honestly, he’s a natural!

Mark is staying quite busy during his senior year of high school. He turned eighteen in October and he’s ready to take on the world. Besides being the Head Drum Major for the high school marching band, he has the lead in the school musical playing Gaston in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Opening night is Thursday January 12th! We can’t wait to watch him and Matthew on stage! As if all that weren’t enough, Mark is auditioning for Oboe Performance at several Universities. He’s hoping to go to the University of Texas in Austin! Time will tell!

Matthew is still just the happiest guy in the family! He’s a sophomore in high school, but doesn’t show the attitude of a typical teenager. He stays busy being the Head Manager of the Drill Team (who wouldn’t love to hang out with thirty-five cute girls everyday) and being heavily involved in theatre like Mark. Besides playing Monsier D’Arque in Beauty and the Beast, he’s also been cast in the UIL One Act Play!

Maisie is a 7th grader at Shelton Middle School! She is now a teenager and it shows! Hahaha! Girls and their hormones can be quite a challenge, but so far she isn’t too bad! She loves cheerleading and hanging out with some sweet girls that she met at Shelton! I couldn’t be happier for her! Not only did she get all A’s this past semester, but she’s actively involved in extra curricular activities as well. Next up we get to see her in the high school’s production of Music Man in February. Only six middle schoolers were cast! We can’t wait to see her on stage!

Brian completed his Masters in December from the University of Texas at Austin!! Yes, we have another Longhorn! I couldn’t be more proud of him. Besides working a full-time job and taking care of all of us, he drove down to Austin every other weekend for the past year and a half! The 7 hour round trip drive was brutal and he never complained! Did I mention that he graduated with a 4.0?? Impressive huh? It’s even more surprising because he began UT on academic probation! Who would’ve thought that his GPA from 30 years ago would follow him into his Masters program?! That still cracks me up!

Finally, for those of you that don’t know, I’m back to work full-time. I’m in my 2nd year of teaching 6th grade English and Science at Maisie’s middle school. I love the kids and I love teaching, but I forgot how much work it is. I leave the house with Maisie at 6 AM every morning and we rarely get home before 6 PM. And if that isn’t enough, I typically go in to school at least one day over the weekend and work for another 5-6 hours. I’m starting to think that per hour, I could probably make more working at McDonalds! Ha! But I guess it wouldn’t be as rewarding and I wouldn’t be making the difference that I am now. I miss being home all the time and volunteering as much as I once did, but I love that I’m able to help take some of the financial burden off Brian. Along with having so many kids comes so many college tuitions! I guess we didn’t think that through very well all those years ago when I was cranking out babies every one to two years! LOL!

Well, I hope 2018 is good to you! Please keep in touch! Look us up on facebook if you have an account. You’ll find us under “Cheryl Brian Doerr”. Also, don’t forget to take a look at our 2017 Christmas Caper. The kids did most of the work this year which allowed Brian to take a back seat for the first time since 1999!

Lots of love and prayers for a heathy and happy new year are being sent your way!

Love, Cheryl

Merry Christmas Everyone!!

2008 has been a very exciting, yet crazy year!  If you’re up for a good read, follow along as I take you through each member of our family’s fun-filled year!

If you’ll remember, Mary was invited to China last December with The North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble (NCYTE) to tap dance at the Beijing International Dance Festival.  It was an amazing experience!  She even climbed to the top of The Great Wall!  On another invitation, she danced in Stuttgart Germany in March!  She definitely has been the world traveler!  In addition, Mary tried out and was awarded the honor of “Lieutenant” for her dance team at Wakeland High School.  So her Junior year started off with a bang only to be derailed by an injury.  On October 3rd Mary tore her ACL during a pep rally.  On October 30th she had surgery to replace the torn ACL.  Unfortunately, this meant the temporary end to her dance career.  She’ll be sidelined until April 30th, six months from the time of surgery.  Although she’s miserable and complains a lot about not dancing, she’s doing amazingly well!  I think getting her driver’s license has helped take her mind of it somewhat as well as keeping busy with theatre in school.  Brian and I keep reminding her, “At least it didn’t happen your senior year!”  Her boyfriend, Sean, keeps her busy too.  At least they were able to go to Homecoming before she was injured!

Mitchell (13) has kept just as busy!  He’s in his last year of Middle School and doesn’t have a free moment in his schedule.  He earned a spot for the second year in a row on both the Griffin Middle School football and basketball teams.  He’s very excited!  It was just icing on the cake after an amazing fall semester.  Mitchell got the lead in the school musical playing Daddy Warbucks in ANNIE.  In addition he made it to phase 2 of the All Region competition for saxophone.  He was just one of 5 people in the entire band to make it this far.  We were extremely proud!  All this while he was playing football and making all A’s in school!  Mitchell amazes us that he can manage to do so well at so many different things!  And guess what else?  He went to Homecoming this year too with a lovely girl named Becky!  I guess he likes his women older just like his dad!  Becky is a Freshman in High School.  Mitchell won’t be in High School until next year!
{rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/2.jpg{/rokzoom}{rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/3.jpg{/rokzoom}{rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/4.jpg{/rokzoom}{rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/32.jpg{/rokzoom}
Madeline (12) started to follow in her sister’s footprints traveling with NCYTE to far off locations.  In March Madeline went to Puebla Mexico for a dance festival.  Brian joined her and they both had a great time!  However, this fall Madeline decided that traveling back and forth to North Carolina wasn’t what she wanted to do anymore.  She felt she was missing out on too much at home and at school.  So she decided to say good bye to NCYTE and take dance classes closer to home.  This has freed her up to get more involved in school.  In fact, she joined her brother on stage in ANNIE playing the part of Lily St. Regis (Rooster’s crazy girlfriend). Madeline feels like the theatre is her second home and has decided this is her calling!  You should have heard her Jersey accent!!!  Even though she played a “ding bat” on stage, she continues to be smart as a whip at school taking all honor’s classes!
{rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/6.jpg{/rokzoom}{rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/26.jpg{/rokzoom}{rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/27.jpg{/rokzoom}{rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/30.jpg{/rokzoom}
Mason (10) is quite the smart and talented guy!  He continues to play basketball, get all A’s, sing in the Honor Choir and All City Choir, and now he’s added dancing to his repertoir!  After auditioning for the Frisco All-City Choir and making it, he decided he wanted to give hip hop dance a whirl!  Well, after his first class, his teacher pulled me aside and said, “He’s REALLY good!  In fact, it’s rare to see kids this young, especially boys, have this kind of rhythm.  Mason is a natural, the best in my class!”  I couldn’t believe it!  Mason has never had a dance class in his life! I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.  He comes from a very talented family!  In addition to all this, Mason just got back from his fifth grade camping trip.  Lucky Brian!  He got to accompany Mason as a chaperone.  Three days at Camp Jolt!  They had a great time trying out waders and riding the zip line, but ask Brian how glad he was to be home!
{rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/20.jpg{/rokzoom}{rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/21.jpg{/rokzoom}
Mark (9) continues to be the “good” boy!  He is so sweet!  He always tries his best and follows all the rules.  And if he doesn’t?  Well, then he tells on himself or gives himself a time-out!  He cracks us up!  Never ask Mark how you look unless you really want to know the truth!  I can promise you this, he won’t lie!!!  His teacher adores him and so do we!  On his first report card he got all “A’s” and one “B” and the only thing he could focus on was the one “B”.  Crazy kid!  We were so very proud of him!!  He decided to give soccer a shot this year and absolutely loved it!  He wasn’t very aggressive at first, but by the end of the season, he was really getting in there with the best of them. Once soccer ended, Mark started another season of basketball.  He really seems to enjoy sports!  I guess he’s taking after his older brothers.

Matthew (6) is still his little crazy self!  Everyone adores him because he’s such a crack up!  He definitely marches to the beat of his own drum.  For his Thanksgiving play at school, guess what part he got?  The turkey!  Imagine that?  He was perfect for the part!  The funniest turkey ever!  In addition to his outgoing personality,  he’s super smart too!  He’s reading like crazy and he’s a whiz at spelling.  It’s rare that he doesn’t come home with the “challenge” spelling list because he gets 100% on his pretest.  He’s reading at a beginning 2nd grade level!   It’s hard to believe our little baby boy is growing up!  Oh…and one important update…Matthew just got glasses!
{rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/24.jpg{/rokzoom}{rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/33.jpg{/rokzoom}
Maisie (4) is growing up!  She’s going to preschool all day now!  She decided she was missing out on way too much going home at 11:45.  She kept begging me to bring her lunch and stay all day.  So now she does!  I miss her though.  We used to have lunch together and then cozy up and take a nap together.  No more of that!  I’ve been replaced!  But I’m happy for her.  She loves school!  She’s not the youngest in her class, but she’s definitely the smallest.  No one believes that she’s 4!  There are kids in her class that just turned 3 that tower over her.  Since she’s in Montessori, her class is comprised of 3-5 year olds.  So she’s smack in the middle as far as age goes.  Maisie started tap and ballet this fall and she absolutely loves every minute of it!  She asks me everyday, “Is today dance day?”  She’s always so disappointed when I say “No, not until Tuesday.”

Brian just started a new job in August at Community Hospital Corporation (CHC) where he is their first Vice President of IT.  He seems pretty happy and looks forward to going to work every day.  Of course, there’s always too much to do and not enough time to do it all.  But that’s always the way, isn’t it?  And when he comes home at the end of each day, I send him running here and there.  He doesn’t ask too many questions.  I tell him where he needs to go or what he needs to do, and he gets it done! (like taking pictures at middle school dances, building websites for Mary’s dance team, working at Pizza Hut Park… -ed)  What a great husband and father!  We’re so lucky!   {rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/22.jpg{/rokzoom}

This summer we told him “Drive to MI” and he drove. 🙂  Well, actually I did most of the driving!  But I had a great time at my surprise 40th birthday party!  Everyone loved seeing all our old friends and family.  We saw a lot of people in our seven days and the kids even got to ride in a Combine when we visited Brian’s Aunt Shirley and Grandma Kuehn on the farm!
 {rokzoom album=|Christmas 2008|}images/stories/08xmas/7.jpg{/rokzoom}  This year I added to the fun of having a big family by flying to Pennsylvania to pick up my new kitty cat for Mother’s Day.  She is a Korat and I named her Willow.  The kids and I love to play with her.   She fits right in!  In fact, I’m trying to talk Brian into letting me get one more!
I’m still doing well as the mother of seven yet I’m busier than ever!   You’d think having “big” kids would be helpful right?  Not so much!  I’m driving around constantly (no, I won’t let Mary drive her siblings around just yet) and I’m forever forgetting something.  At least it’s a some“thing” and not a some“one” right?  And then there’s homework….I thought I was done with that when I graduated college!  Boy was I wrong!  I have more homework now!  Not only do I have things I need to read, sign, date, and send back (times 7), but then I’m tutor extraordinaire!  And when it’s too hard for me, I send the kids to Brian and hope he can help.  Sometimes neither one of us has a clue!  Brian and I are up every night until at least 11 or 12 doing homework or laundry!  It’s crazy, but we love it (most of the time) and wouldn’t change a thing.
We hope your year has been as blessed as ours has been!  And we hope 2009 proves to bring more blessings to us all!  Hopefully, we’ll see a stronger economy soon!  Even as we worry about the uncertainties of the future, let us take a moment out of our hectic lives to remember all that we have to be grateful for.  Remember, we’ve all been given the ultimate gift in our Lord Jesus Christ!
Merry Christmas!
Love, Cheryl (Brian, and gang!)

For Mother’s Day I got a new little kitten I named Willow.  It wasn’t much of a surprise since I picked it out and actually flew to Pittsburgh Friday night to get it.

She is a Korat which comes from Thailand and is hypoallergenic, which will be good for Mitchell.

The kids bought me some kitten play toys for her and we’ve had a lot of fun introducing her to TX and our family.

Brian put up a few pictures from our first day with Willow.

More soon.

OK…so Cheryl won’t write this article but I need to.  Over the past 4 months, Cheryl has been busting her tail in a workout boot-camp program at a local gym called The Ultimate Body Studio here in Frisco.

It‘s a pretty intense 1 hour a day, 5-day a week workout.  In addition to the workout, they put you through an intense detox and eating regiment.  Cheryl stuck with the program and followed the guidelines to a "T"…

The results were pretty amazing to say the least.  Over the 20 weeks, Cheryl lost over 25 pound and reduced her percent body fat from 29% down to 18%.  The results were good enough to get her inducted into the Gym’s Ultimate Fit Club, which is reserved for people who make a "Complete Body Transformation" during the first 20 weeks.

The Gym’s owner was so impressed that he asked Cheryl if she would mind if they used her picture in marketing material and advertisements.

To the left is her after picture and if you want to see her before picture and her ad, you can do so here.

Like I said, she won’t write about it, the rest of us are very proud of her efforts and her success and thought yo might like to know.

Cheryl’s 20 year reunion

Hey Everybody! Brian and I flew into Detroit for my 20 year high school reunion Saturday October 28th. It was a whirlwind trip but very fun! We got into Detroit Saturday morning around 1:30 A.M.!! We slept in until almost noon (which we totally needed). We ate a late breakfast/early lunch and then started getting ready for the festivities which started at 5:30. It takes a few hours to get the mother of 7 beautiful!! My friend Amy and I got our hair and makeup done! It was fun pampering ourselves. How often do we get to do that?! We partied until 2:30 A.M. and then had to be up and at 'em by 8:00 A.M. Sunday morning to be to the airport by 10:00 (we had a 12:00 flight). Yikes! All that squished into a little more than 24 hours! We wanted to be back early Sunday so we could celebrate Mary's 14th birthday with her. Plus it's hard to find someone to watch 7 kids for much longer than one day!

As you can tell by the pictures in the iWeb section, we had an awesome time!! Everybody looked amazing! Well, almost everybody. The girls definitely aged better than the boys! A few people I didn't recognize, but most of them I did. Brian was a real trooper being the "trophy" husband that he was!

Enjoy the photos!

Love, Cheryl

Merry Christmas 2005

Merry Christmas from the Doerrs!

Another year has flown by and Brian and I have found ourselves wondering where the time has gone and whose big idea it was to have 7 children?!  2005 has been a good year, albeit extremely hectic.  We love our large family, but find ourselves getting bogged down with family activities and an exorbitant amount of homework!

Mary starts high school next fall, and her homework load has picked up considerably.  In addition to school, she dances, has a lead role in the school play, and played field hockey this past fall. Mitchell and Mason are both playing basketball and have joined in the tap craze.  Madeline just earned a spot as a member of the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble (NCYTE) along with her big sis Mary. Mark started kindergarten this year and Matthew goes to preschool three days a week and then hangs out with Maisie and me at home the other two days.  Speaking of Maisie, she’s almost walking!  She’s 14 months old now and weighs a whopping 14 pounds 12 ounces!

Brian is still working for Duke and volunteering at church doing AV work and building our church website (christmethodist.org). I’ve continued my job as house manager and tutor extraordinaire in addition to directing the church Christmas Pageant and leading Madeline’s Girl Scout Troop.  Nothing new there!

So that’s our life in a postcard.  Please drop in when you’re in town.  God bless you and your family this Christmas season.  Make sure you take time out of your busy schedule to remember the miracle of Christ’s birth.

Love, Cheryl
