It was the biggest and most amazing haul for the kids this year, and not because they stayed out forever but because they stumbled into a plan that raked in the candy, even without Mary who was handing out candy due to her surgery the day before.
Mitchell wanted to go to the Wakeland football game (yes, they scheduled a football game on Halloween) as the middle school team was asked if they wanted to run through the tunnel with the football team. That meant he might miss trick-or-treating.
He left early and got back from the game at 8pm and asked if he could go out for a bit. We had been out for 45 minutes already with the little kids so I told him he could go out for a little while and Mason and Mark could go with him.
They were gone for about a hour. When they came back they had a ton of candy. It seemed that everyone, including us, had over bought thinking there were going to be more kids this year. So at every house they went to (they only went up and down three blocks) people were handing them handfuls of candy or just dumping the rest of the bowl into their bags in an effort to get rid of it. Thanks!
Now we have an enormous amount of candy. We let the kids each pick 25 pieces for their private stash and the rest goes into the family shared bag. We may head to the dentist and sell it to her. She will pay $.50 a pound and then send it to the troops.
